About Me

Hello and welcome to Heathy Options With so many health sites online run by people with little knowledge or qualifications and offering dubious information, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and offer you some assurance of my qualifications and experience, and my genuine desire to offer well researched advice. My name is Janet Matthews. I live in Hereford in the UK with my husband. I have 3 grown up children and 4 beautiful grandchildren. I took early retirement from teaching in 2006 and have spent a large proportion of my time since then  revisiting my passion for health and nutrition. I originally trained with the Institute of Optimum Nutrition in London in 1987-9 and have a Dip ION qualification. More recently I have studied Naturopathy for 18 months with the College of Natural Nutrition in Bristol, and completed and passed Part 1 of the Metabolic Typing training with Healthexcel. Although I no longer practice as a nutritionist I am now following my other passion of imparting knowledge (once a teacher always a teacher!!).  It is my intention that this website will cover a wide range of health issues and  how to treat them naturally without the need for drugs, as well as offering the latest generic health information. Although Healthy Options will deal with all matters pertaining to health and well-being , I will, in particular, be offering help and suggestions for people who are struggling to lose weight. I have worked for 2 weight loss companies and have also run a slimming class in my local town for 2 years. Over the years I have  given help and advice to many friends, relatives and colleagues who have been struggling with weight loss as well as other health related conditions. My years of experience have helped me to understand what works and what doesn't and how to avoid the expensive  and frustrating mistakes that many people make. My work as a teacher was primarily with children with emotional and behavioral problems. This has led me to research ways of improving behavior through dietary intervention. More recently I have been researching the link between diet and psychological disorders such as autism and ADHD  how these conditions may be improved through careful nutritional management. Through my dealings with children with emotional and behavioral problems I discovered an interest in personal development  and in particular the various personality types how this impacts on our lives. I have completed part one of the Enneagram Teachers Certificate with Helen Palmer and have  trained as an MBTI Practitioner (Myers Briggs Type Indicator.) I also have a Diploma in Life Coaching from Newcastle College.
