Back to Basics
Having done a lot of research regarding what is a healthy way of eating, I have come to the conclusion that if you base your dietary regime on getting back to basics you won't go far wrong.
If we look back to Paleolithic times, archeological studies demonstrate that the men were agile and strong. Degenerative disease was unknown, as was obesity. Paleolithic man is more popularly referred to as the hunter- gather. So what was the diet that they followed?
Paleolithic diet consists mainly of meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots, and nuts; and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, salt, refined sugar, and processed oils. The diet is made up of food as nature intended. No processed foods or foods that have been sprayed with chemicals, just pure unadulterated food. This is what I would consider to be going back to basics.
There is a well known saying "If our ancestors didn't eat it then we shouldn't eat it" !! I wonder what they would think of "chicken nuggets" and "fish fingers"? Hardly food as nature intended.
