Low Carb Vegetables for Weight Loss
Ok – so the other day we talked about low carb proteins, today we are going to look at low carb vegetables. It is important to be aware that there are many varieties of low carb diets available. Some of the diets simply require you to count carbs and keep your carb count below a specific daily total, in this case you will need to weigh your foods to have an accurate count at first.

The following is a recent press release regarding the Paleo Diet
The cardiovascular risks associated with unhealthy eating are well documented and becoming ever prevalent in the media. Because of this, more people are gravitating towards a healthy eating lifestyle such as the paleo diet. According to a report by the National Centre for Biotechnology Information, a potential ‘processed foods industry’ response to this consumer backlash could be the introduction of a "magic statin pill" that speculatively serves to offset the negative cardiovascular effects of fast-foods.

Tweet Back to Basics
Having done a lot of research regarding what is a healthy way of eating, I have come to the conclusion that if you base your dietary regime on getting back to basics you won't go far wrong.
If we look back to Paleolithic times, archeological studies demonstrate that the men were agile and strong. Degenerative disease was unknown, as was obesity. Paleolithic man is more popularly referred to as the hunter- gather. So what was the diet that they followed?

I belong to several health related forums online. Recently I have been made more and more aware of the plight of many young people with young families who are suffering from ill health. Many of these families are suffering together and their whole lives are affected by their incapacity. As a health professional my instinct is to want to help them, but something tells me that in most cases this is virtually an impossible task.

Eat 5 a day!! or even eat 10 a day. Both of these slogans are used regularly to encourage people to eat a healthy diet, so that they may live long and healthy lives.
Encouraging people to eat more fruit and vegetables is seen a top priority by those who are promoting a healthier diet. Many serious illnesses are caused by nutritional deficiency due to a diet made up of poor quality food and far to many people are eating processed foods and fast foods that have little or no nutritional value.

Many modern diseases and conditions have what we would term an inflammatory response. Arthritis is a particularly painful inflammatory response as is chronic back pain.
Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Fats and Oils – Omega 3 essential fatty acids are very powerful anti-inflammatory agents. They are converted into hormone like substances called prostaglandins. They are found in cold water oily fish such as salmon, mackerel or herring, flaxseed (sometimes called linseed) and their oil. Omega 6 fats are also responsible for reducing inflammation and pain and they can be found in pumpkin, sunflower, safflower and sesame seed oils.

There are many different ways to approach a detox regime. One such way is to embark on a period of fasting and abstinence. Fasting for a short period of time on a regular basis has been part of a religious practice for many years and has been seen as an appropriate way of allowing the body to recover and replenish. This is perfectly acceptable for somebody who normally leads a healthy life, however somebody who practices unhealthy lifestyle habits would not be advised to embark on this type of detox regime.

What does it actually mean when we say we want to detox naturally? Does it mean to allow our bodies to detox without any interference? In an ideal world where we regularly eat a healthy diet and lead the type of healthy lifestyle that our ancestors did, detoxing as nature intended may be a more feasible proposition. Our bodies do in fact have their own natural detox mechanisms. The gut is designed to prevent bacteria and many toxins from entering the body. The liver acts as an extraordinary chemical factory to make a water soluble compound that can

Having recently reached the age where the title OAP seems both scary and yet seemingly inappropriate (my idea of what constitutes an OAP is a million miles away from how I currently see myself) my attention has been focused on the topics of aging and anti aging. How much of the aging process do we just have to accept as “old age” and how much of it is due to our lifestyle choices? More importantly, if some of it is due to lifestyle choices, what can we do to reduce its impact on us as we approach our
